History
Founded in 1871 in Worcester, Massachusetts by Gilbert Harrington and William Richardson, H&R became America's premier manufacturer of affordable single-shot shotguns. The company produced millions of break-action shotguns that served as first guns for generations of American hunters. H&R was known for value-priced, reliable firearms and their shotguns were often the gateway to shooting sports for budget-conscious families. The original company ceased operations in 1986, was revived as H&R 1871, Inc. in 1991, acquired by Marlin in 2000, then Remington in 2007, and finally discontinued in February 2015.
