Japanese manufacturer of quality boxlock over/under shotguns known for exceptional craftsmanship and value, produced 1966-2009.

Country: Japan
Founded: 1966

History

SKB Arms Company of Japan exported its first shotguns into the United States in 1966, quickly establishing a reputation for well-crafted boxlock guns with monobloc barrels. Imported by Ithaca Gun Company from 1968 to 1978, then Mitsui and Co. from 1980 to 1983, and finally G.U. Inc from 1987 to 2010. SKB also manufactured shotguns under contract for Browning, Weatherby, and Birmingham Small Arms (BSA). In 1986, SKB produced its one millionth shotgun. The x85 series (585, 685, 785) represented the later Japanese production models with the most modern features, known for exceptional build quality and value. Sadly, the SKB factory in Japan closed its doors at the end of 2009, with final inventory purchased by G.U. Inc of Omaha, Nebraska, who continues to provide parts and support. Japanese SKBs are highly regarded as undervalued gems in the used market.
