History

Introduced in 1937, the Model 37 is based on John Browning's 1915 patent for the Remington Model 17. The unique bottom ejection/loading port leaves the sides closed to elements, making it truly ambidextrous and popular with left-handed shooters. Pre-1975 models featured 'slam-fire' capability - holding the trigger while pumping fires immediately when the action closes. This feature was removed for safety in newer models. The Model 37 served with US Armed Forces in WWII, Korea, and especially Vietnam with Navy SEALs and Army Green Berets. The NYPD and LAPD issued Model 37s from the 1940s through the 1990s. The one-millionth Model 37 was produced in 1968. Available in Featherlight, Deerslayer, Defense, and Stakeout (NFA Class III) variants. At approximately 2 million units produced, it remains the only pre-WWII shotgun still in production.
