Ithaca Gun

Ithaca Gun Company

Historic American manufacturer of the legendary Model 37 pump-action shotgun, the longest continuously produced pump shotgun in history.

Country: USA
Founded: 1880

History

The Ithaca Gun Company was founded in 1880 in Ithaca, New York. Following World War I, Ithaca sought to produce a pump-action shotgun to compete with the Winchester Model 12, using the Remington Model 17 as their model with modifications by designer Harry Howland in 1931. After discovering a Pedersen patent wouldn't expire until 1937, production of what would become the Model 37 was delayed from the originally planned 1933 introduction. Made in many different models, the Ithaca 37 has the longest production run for a pump-action shotgun in history, surpassing the Winchester Model 12. By 2003, more than 2,000,000 Model 37s had been produced. The Model 37 is the only pre-World War II shotgun still in production. The company has changed hands multiple times and is now based in Sandusky, Ohio, continuing to produce Model 37 variants.
