Holland & Holland
Holland & Holland Limited
Legendary British gunmaker since 1835, holding two royal warrants, producing the world's finest bespoke shotguns and rifles with 800+ hours of handwork per gun.
History
Holland & Holland Limited was founded in 1835 by Harris Holland in London, England. Harris, believed to be the son of an organ builder, established himself as a gunmaker, taking on his nephew Henry Holland as apprentice in 1861 and making him partner in 1867. In 1876, the name changed to Holland & Holland. The company holds two royal warrants and is renowned worldwide for handmade sporting rifles and shotguns of the highest quality. Holland's Royal model was first mentioned in 1883 and illustrated in The Field magazine in 1895. A second series was developed in the 1890s incorporating Holland-Robertson patents, and an assisted opening mechanism was added in 1922. In 1989, all remaining shares were bought by French luxury group Chanel, which extensively renovated the factory building in use since 1898. Each Royal shotgun takes approximately 800 hours to complete, with a 2-3 year waiting period between ordering and delivery.
