History

Werk Haenel Suhl was part of VEB (Volkseigener Betrieb) Ernst Thälmannwerke in Suhl, East Germany (GDR). Produced shotguns during the East German era including 16 gauge models. Some models made by JP Sauer for Haenel. Represented East German firearms manufacturing during the Cold War period. Known for solid, functional shotguns with Krupp steel barrels. Suhl continued its gunmaking tradition even under communist state ownership.
