Thompson Center Arms Encore
Break-action single-shot platform with interchangeable 12/20 gauge shotgun barrels.
History
Thompson/Center Arms introduced the Encore in 1997 as a successor to their popular Contender pistol (introduced 1960s). The Encore features a robust break-action design that accepts interchangeable barrels, allowing the same frame to function as a rifle, shotgun, or pistol. Shotgun configurations include 12 and 20 gauge barrels, with the Encore Pro Hunter Shotgun Slug model featuring a 28" fully-rifled fluted barrel optimized for slug hunting. The versatile platform became popular with hunters who value the ability to swap between different calibers and gauges. After being acquired by Smith & Wesson and subsequently discontinued, Thompson Center Arms was revived by original owners who purchased it back and relaunched production. The company acquired Green Mountain Rifle Barrel Company to support American-made barrel production.
