History

Original Lefever Arms Company (1883-1916) premium grade system. Optimus grade featured finest French walnut, Whitworth fluid steel or Kilby barrels, full pistol grip with horn cap, full compensated action, gold inlay, and highest class engraving. AA through E grades descended in quality/price. Featured Damascus, laminated steel, or fluid steel barrels. Known for American craftsmanship competing with European makers. Founded 1883 by Daniel Lefever in Syracuse NY. Available in 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 20 gauge (14ga eliminated by 1892). Production ended when company merged with Ithaca 1916.
