History

Introduced in 1913 as part of grade system reorganization, Field Grade became the most common L.C. Smith model. Replaced earlier numbered grade system with name-based grades. Featured solid walnut stock with basic checkering and engraving. Represented reliable American craftsmanship at accessible price point for working hunters. Available in 8, 12, 16, 20, and .410 gauge. Production continued through 1950 under Hunter Arms Company (1889-1945) and then Marlin (1945-1950). Over 528,000 L.C. Smith guns produced total.
