Squad etiquette question - when to call for the bird?
Been shooting NSCA registered shoots for about 2 years now, mostly local stuff but did my first state championship last month. I shoot a Browning Citori 725 with modified choke, usually 1-1/8 oz of #8 shot at 1200 fps. My question is about timing - I've been on squads where some guys call for the bird almost immediately after the previous shooter, and others wait what feels like forever. Is there an unwritten rule about this, or does it just depend on the squad?

Good question - this is one of those things that varies by squad and sometimes even by station. Most experienced shooters I know wait until the previous shooter is completely finished (gun broken, off their shoulder) and has stepped back from the station. That gives them time to clear the area and avoids any safety issues. Some faster-paced squads will call as soon as the previous shooter breaks their last target, but I'd recommend waiting that extra second or two, especially at bigger shoots like state championships. What's your squad usually like - more relaxed or pretty quick?
