Struggling with consistency on long crossers at FITASC Compak - is it my gun mount or my lead?

Been shooting FITASC Compak for a couple years now, but I keep dropping the same target - that long left-to-right crosser on Station 3, usually around 35-40 yards. I'm shooting a Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon with an Improved Modified choke, using Federal Top Gun 1-1/8oz #8 at 1200fps. I feel like I'm seeing the gap, but the break is either just behind or I miss completely. Tried both sustained and pull-away leads.

That's a classic tough bird! At that distance with an IM choke, your pattern is getting thin. First thing I'd check - are you maintaining your head position through the shot? I've found that on those long crossers, it's easy to lift your head slightly to 'see' the break, which throws off your mount and timing. Try focusing on keeping your cheek welded to the stock all the way through your follow-through. Also, with that target presentation, I've had better luck with a swing-through method rather than sustained lead - the acceleration seems to help with timing. What's your foot position like on that station?
