Anyone else think Pilla's high-contrast lenses are overrated for sporting clays?

Been shooting a Beretta 694 with factory chokes for a few years, mostly at my local club with mixed lighting. I've tried Pilla's Outlaw Yellow and Panther Brown lenses, but honestly, I don't see the huge advantage over my old Randolph Rangers with the standard vermilion tint. I'm shooting 1-1/8 oz of #8 at 1200 fps, and my scores haven't really changed. Am I missing something, or is this mostly hype?

I felt the same way until I tried them on specific targets. The high-contrast lenses really shine (pun intended) on low-light days or against busy backgrounds—think station 7 at my club with the woods behind it. They won't fix your swing, but they can help you pick up the target a split-second faster on true report pairs. What specific stations are you struggling with? Might be worth trying a different tint like the Commander Purple for overcast days before writing them off completely.
