Anyone else think Pilla's 'High Definition' lenses are overhyped for sporting clays?

Been shooting a Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon for years and always used Randolph Rangers with the amber lenses. Tried a buddy's Pilla set with the 'High Definition' yellow lens everyone raves about. Honestly, on a typical overcast day at my club, I didn't see a dramatic edge definition improvement over my old Randys, especially on long crossers from the tower. Just felt like a very expensive side-grade.

I get where you're coming from. I shot with Decot Hy-Wyds for a decade before switching to Pilla. The 'HD' lens magic really shows itself in flat, low-contrast light—think heavy overcast or late evening—where it seems to pop the orange against grey backgrounds. For standard overcast, a good amber from Randolph or even the Pilla Outlaw Yellow is often plenty. What specific lighting were you in when you tried them? Sometimes it's less about the lens tech and more about matching the exact tint to the day's contrast level.
