Just got a Beretta A300 - what factory loads should I start with for trap?
Hey all, brand new shooter here. Just picked up a Beretta A300 Outlander for trap shooting. I've been to the range twice and tried some cheap Rio shells, but the recoil was pretty harsh and I'm not breaking many targets. I'm shooting from the 16-yard line with a modified choke. Looking for something more comfortable and effective to learn with.

Welcome to the sport! For your A300, I'd recommend starting with Federal Top Gun or Winchester AA Light Target loads in 7.5 or 8 shot. They're 1-1/8 oz loads at around 1200 fps - much softer shooting than those Rio shells, which tend to be hotter. With your modified choke from 16 yards, those will give you nice, consistent patterns without beating you up. What's your barrel length on that A300? Sometimes a lighter load like that makes all the difference when you're getting your mount and swing down.
