My reloads for sporting clays aren't breaking targets consistently past 35 yards
Been reloading for about a year with a MEC 600 Jr. and my patterns seem weak on longer shots. I'm using once-fired Remington STS hulls, 17.5 grains of Alliant Extra-Lite, a WAA12 wad, and 1 oz of #8 lead shot. Shooting a Beretta A400 with a Modified choke. At 40+ yards, I'm getting too many dusters.

That's a classic issue with light target loads on longer presentations. Your load is fine for 30-35 yard stuff, but for 40+ you might want to bump up to 1-1/8 oz of shot and consider switching to #7.5s - they carry energy better. Also check your crimp quality on the MEC; a shallow crimp can cause inconsistent velocities. What's your crimp depth looking like on those STS hulls?
