Looking for a good dove load that won't shred birds at 25 yards

I've been using my Beretta A300 with a Modified choke and Federal 7.5 shot, 1-1/8 oz loads for dove. I'm hitting birds consistently, but I'm getting a lot of shredded meat, especially on closer shots. I'm wondering if I should switch to a more open choke or maybe a lighter load?

You're on the right track. For dove at those ranges, a Modified choke with 7.5s is pretty tight. I'd try an Improved Cylinder choke first - it'll give you a more forgiving pattern at 25 yards. If you still get too much damage, maybe drop down to 1 oz loads from Fiocchi or Winchester. They'll still have plenty of pellets for clean kills but less overall energy. What's your typical shot distance on those closer birds?
