Hevi-Shot vs. Boss for late-season honkers?

Been chasing Canadas over corn stubble with my Beretta A400 Xtreme Plus, using a Patternmaster Code Black Goose choke. I've had good luck with Federal Black Cloud 3" BBs early season, but these late-season birds are getting wise and hanging up at 45-50 yards. Considering a switch to a denser/heavier pellet. Anyone have direct experience comparing Hevi-Shot's Hevi-Metal or their Classic Doubles loads against the new Boss shells for this specific scenario?

Good question. I ran a similar test last year with my Browning Maxus. At those 45-50 yard ranges, the Boss 3.5" #2s (the "Shredder" load) definitely patterned tighter for me than Hevi-Metal #2s through the same choke (a Carlson's Long Range XR). The Boss pellets are harder and more uniform, so they seem to hold together better at the edge of your effective range. The Hevi-Metal is great stuff too, but I found it started to get a little thin past 45 yards. Might be worth grabbing a box of each and running a pattern test at 50 yards to see what your gun likes best. What's your barrel length on that A400?
