First time pheasant hunter - what's a good all-around load?

Just got my license and a used Beretta A300 Outlander. Heading to South Dakota for a guided hunt this fall. I've been shooting clays with 7.5 target loads, but my buddy says I need something heavier for pheasants. Not sure what shot size or brand to buy.

Good question! For pheasants, you'll want to step up from those 7.5 target loads. I'd recommend #6 shot - it's a great balance of pellet count and energy. Federal Premium or Winchester Super-X in 1-1/8 oz at around 1300 fps would be perfect. With your A300, try a Modified choke for most shots in the 25-35 yard range. What choke tubes came with your shotgun?
