Just started sporting clays and my scores are terrible on crossing targets

I'm new to sporting clays and really struggling with crossing targets, especially the battue and chandelle presentations. I'm using a Browning Citori 725 with modified choke and Federal Top Gun 1-1/8 oz #8 shot. I feel like I'm always behind the target or missing completely. Any tips for a beginner?

Welcome to the sport! Don't worry, everyone struggles with crossing targets at first. With your Citori and that setup, you're actually in good shape - Federal Top Gun #8s are perfect for most sporting clays stations. For crossing targets, try focusing on your foot position first: point your lead foot toward where you want to break the target, not where it's coming from. Start your gun mount earlier than you think you need to, and try to see more of the target's leading edge. What distance are you typically breaking these at - are we talking 25 yards or closer to 40?
