Q&A / Trap

Struggling with my 27-yard handicap station 3 targets

I've been shooting American Trap for about 2 years and just moved back to the 27-yard line. I'm consistently missing station 3 targets to the right (I'm a right-handed shooter). I'm using a Browning Citori with a Modified choke, shooting 1-1/8 oz of #8 shot at 1200 fps. My foot position feels solid, but I just can't seem to connect.

That's a classic problem at the 27-yard line! Station 3 targets from the handicap can really sneak out to the right. First, check your hold point - you might be holding too far left and having to chase the bird. Try holding just left of the trap house center. Also, with a Modified choke at 27 yards, your pattern is getting thin. I'd switch to a Full choke for handicap shooting. What's your lead look like on those misses? Are you seeing daylight between the bead and target?
