Trap vs Skeet
I'm new to clay shooting and I am wondering what the difference between the two disciplines is.

In Trap all targets are going away targets to the left, right, or straight from the shooter. The shotgun is mounted and most of the time swing through method is used. A tight choke is required due to the fact that all targets are going away.
Skeet has a variety of target types - incoming, leaving, quartering away, quartering incoming, crossers. Also, there are many Skeet configurations. Due to the short distance from the target, a wider choke is used, such as Cylinder or Skeet. For the American version, the gun can be pre-mounted vs. Olympic version the shotgun is not mounted when shooting.
