History

Founded in 1866 as the New Haven Arms Company and reorganized as Winchester Repeating Arms in 1866, Winchester is one of America's most iconic firearms and ammunition brands. The company began shotshell production in the early 20th century and introduced the legendary AA target load in 1965 - celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2025. Winchester pioneered numerous innovations including the plastic wad column, Super-X hunting loads, and Shot-Lok technology for extended range turkey hunting. Manufacturing facilities in East Alton, Illinois and Oxford, Mississippi produce millions of shotshells annually.
