Founded in 1931 in Pretoria West, South Africa, Denel Pretoria Metal Pressings (PMP) has grown into an integrated manufacturer of small- and medium-calibre ammunition, brass products, detonics, power cartridges, and mining drill-bits. The company employs approximately 1,000 people and is a division of the Denel Group, South Africa's state-owned defence company. Denel PMP's history is linked to the South African Mint, which produced ammunition from 1937 to 1964. Throughout its history, PMP has produced ammunition with different codes including SAM, A, RSA, PMP, and various number abbreviations. The company is a proud holder of ISO 9001 certification for quality, ISO 14001 for environmental standards, and OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety. A major portion of Denel PMP's turnover is through exports to international markets. The company's Pro-Amm, Standard, and Super ranges of hunting ammunition have established a reputation for quality, accuracy, and reliability in South Africa, Europe, and USA markets. As of 2019, Denel PMP is the only supplier of ammunition to the South African Police Service.
