MAXAM / Rio Ammunition
Spanish ammunition leader with 125+ years of innovation, offering over 500 products manufactured with vertical integration.
History
RIO's history traces back to 1872 when Alfred Nobel founded Sociedad Española de la Dinamita (SED) in Bilbao, Spain. In 1896, major Spanish munitions manufacturers merged to establish Unión de Explosivos de España (UEE), and the RIO cartridge was born. The company evolved through mergers to become MAXAM, one of the world's leading explosives and ammunition companies. RIO began exporting to the United States in 2002 and opened a 9,800 square-foot factory in Marshall, Texas in 2015, producing one million cartridges per day for 20 million American hunters and shooters. The company operates with completely integrated production - manufacturing all components in-house including brass, primers, hulls, powders, shot, and wads at facilities in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain. Over 500 products in production, RIO has become the choice of hunters and competition shooters worldwide with 125+ years of innovation.
